Van Gogh’s Shadow

When I was a young student, I stumbled upon
Van Gogh’s mystic vision of a café at night,
Of Chartres blue, lambent halos, and windows’ glow
And my soul was beguiled by the furtive shadow
Evanescing through a portal of orange light
To evade the mundane before the break of dawn.
